When i was taking Human anatomy in dental school, we were complaining to our professor why we had to study the whole body & not just head & neck anatomy since we are going to work on teeth. Our professor gave us this long look & I thought he was going to give us a surprise quiz to punish us.  Finally he said with a sign “Your patients will come in to see you bringing their whole body, not just their head & neck or that would freak you out! Certain illnesses manifest symptoms in the mouth & diseases in the mouth can affect the heart etc so stop complaining & get busy!” WOW…he changed my whole view of dentistry! People touch our lives in so many different ways and I want to be able to do that for my patients!
