Doctor Richard E. Schell has lived in Southern California most of his life. He attended the Claremont colleges and received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Harvey Mudd College, where he graduated with honors and distinction. After graduation, he earned a Master of Science degree in microbiology and molecular biology at UCLA, where he published numerous original scientific articles in molecular genetics and worked as a teaching assistant in the Department of Chemistry. He then graduated from the School of Dentistry at UCLA and simultaneously earned a master’s degree in oral biology doing research in cell membrane physiology. Following his graduation from the UCLA School of Dentistry, he did an internship and residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at UCLA Harbor General Hospital in Los Angeles. During his internship and residency, he published several clinical articles on the reading and interpretation of x-rays for maxillofacial trauma patients. After the completion of his internship and residency, he has been in private practice in the South Bay area providing comprehensive care for Oral and Maxillofacial surgery patients. He has extensive training in all aspects of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, including the treatment of trauma, pathology, extractions, wisdom tooth treatment, IV sedation and general anesthesia, dental implantology and bone grafting procedures. He maintains certification in basic life support (BLS) and Advanced cardiovascular life-support (ACLS). He also serves as an inspector for dental anesthesia for the State of California.
